New Trends in Music is a series of three textbooks for Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students aimed at teaching the four learning targets of the music curriculum through integrated learning activities. These activities include listening, performing and creating.
The main features of this series are:
- Each module is made up of a number of relevant units, with the learning objectives and targets listed clearly on the first page of each module.
- The musical activities in each unit are based around real-life scenarios to encourage students' interest in learning.
- Interactive learning activities enrich the experience for students and encourage them to discover musical knowledge independently.
- A diverse repertoire of folk songs, classical pieces, art songs, master pieces, western and local pop songs is included. These songs and melodies are suitable for singing and performing in solo, unison or parts.
- A variety of musical excerpts is provided with directed focus and questions designed to strengthen the students' musical appreciation.
- Composing activities are specially designed to cater for learner diversity. Students can complete each task according to their ability.
Each textbook is complemented by learning resources such as workbooks and preparatory and enhancement worksheets. Students can revise and consolidate learnt knowledge so as to develop their ability to self-study.
